Living the Greek history

During the third and fourth day of our mobility we have travelled back in time by means of 3 wonderful guided visits to the baptistery of Saint Lydia, the ancient town of Phillipi and the stunning city of Thessaloniki. Just 12 km away from the   city of Kavala  next to the ancient,  archaeological site of Philippi  located the place where the Apostle Paul baptized the first Christian woman in Europe - Lydia, and it was here that the first baptismal ceremony was held in Europe. Today here is the  Baptistery  where the christenings are held today. The Archaeological Site of Philippi is lying at the foot of an acropolis in north-eastern Greece on the ancient route linking Europe with Asia, the Via Egnatia. The city of Philippi, re-founded by Philip II on a former colony of Thasians in 356 BCE, was reshaped by the Romans into a "small Rome" with its elevation to a Colonia Augusta of the Roman Empire in the decades following the Battle of Philippi. The v...

Kalimera from Kavala

Today we have had the great pleasure to participate and interact in a simulated debate of the European Parliament. Students from Greece, Germany and Spain have interacted in their official languages, followed by the English translation of the content. Members from the Council have welcomed us and the coordinator of europadirect has come especially for this activity. It has been a stunning activity as students not only claimed their rights but also offered a new vision on the concept of democracy and social wellbeing. Needless to say that we felt proud of our student's interactions in Spanish,  Valencian and English.  We also visited the tabacoo museum, a symbol of the city of Kavala and a key point of the socio-economic development of it. The most important remark, that can summerize the  visit, was that in life, it is better to choose quality rather than quantity!  To finish up this wonderful day we had a guided tour to the old Town (Panagia), the castle, Saint s Ni...
